Health Information Management (HIM)

HCC now offers an associate of applied science degree in health information management (HIM). The program was created in response to the tremendous growth opportunities in the health information management field.

The first course, Fundamentals of Electronic Health Records (HIM 101), is being offered as part of the first semester in the program pathway. The multi-disciplinary curriculum focuses on healthcare data as the foundation for information and knowledge management systems, and emphasizes health data management, clinical, and administrative decision-making, strategic planning, and outcomes management.

Program Options

The HIM program will provide operational knowledge and practical skills to prepare healthcare professionals to manage electronic health records in variety of settings such as doctor’s offices, hospitals, insurance companies, and other health-related employment settings. Job titles associated with health information management include clinical coding specialist, physician practice manager, insurance claims analyst, privacy officer, systems manager, patient information coordinator, and electronic health records developer.
