HCC is working diligently to keep you informed about construction projects on campus. See below for recent construction updates.

New STEM Building now open

The new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Building opened on Jan. 9, 2012 and is home to all the science programs formerly housed in the Science Building, as well as to the alternative energy technology, cybersecurity, engineering, and mathematics programs.

Please note that while the building itself is open for classes, there is still work being conducted on the building and the surrounding area, including the exterior staircase that runs parallel to the building. At this time, the exterior staircase is NOT open to the public.

About the new STEM Building

  • Five-story, 65,000 square-foot structure built between the Classroom Building and the original Science Building
     
  • Features green roof components, as well as solar, wind, and geothermal energy components
     
  • Houses all the science programs, as well as the alternative energy technology, information systems technology, mechanical engineering, and mathematics programs
     
  • The original Science Building will be renovated and renamed the Learning Center. Once renovated, the Learning Center will be home to all developmental programs and tutoring services

 

Renovation and Expansion of the Kepler Building nearly complete

The renovation and expansion of the existing Kepler Theater is nearly complete. Once finished, the Kepler Building will include a renovated Kepler Theater and the addition of the Performing and Visual Arts Education Center (PVAEC).

A note for students taking classes during the spring 2012 semester

Until the Kepler Building opens, all students scheduled to take classes in Kepler should meet in the Classroom Building (CLR) until further notice. For a list of classes that have been temporarily relocated to the Classroom Building, click here.

Please note that Kepler Drive will be closed to students, faculty, and staff for the entire spring 2012 semester. Only construction vehicles and deliveries are allowed on Kepler Drive.

About the Kepler renovation

  • Renovation to the original Kepler Theater includes the addition of a blackbox theater, practice rooms, dance studio, classrooms, expanded dressing rooms, costume shop, extended wardrobe storage, faculty offices, and a completely refurbished theater.

Renovation of the former Science Building

Renovation of the former Science Building has now begun. When finished, the building will be renamed The Learning Center and will be home to all developmental education and tutoring services, faculty offices, a faculty professional development center, and three classrooms. The current science function of the building (lab and science instruction space) has been relocated to the STEM Building, which opened to the public in Jan. 2012.
