How to Self Enroll in a Blackboard Course

There are two methods from which an instructor can choose to enroll students in their Blackboard courses – Instructor/Administrator-led enrollment or Self Enrollment/Student-led enrollment. Your instructor will specify the type of enrollment he/she has selected either at your orientation session or in class if Blackboard is being used as a web-enhancement tool. If the instructor chooses Instructor/Admin enrollment, then you should see the course listed in your My Courses box after you log in to Blackboard. If the instructor wants you to self enroll in a course, you can follow the instructions below.

When you log in to Blackboard, you arrive at the My Institution screen. If you are already enrolled in a course, it will be displayed in your My Courses box. If you are to self enroll in a course, click on the dark green Courses tab.

From the Courses page, you may use the scroll bar on the right and category links from the Course Catalog to locate the course in which you wish to enroll. You may also use the Course Search box on the left to enter a part of the course title and then click the GO! icon.

Once you have located the course in which you wish to enroll, click on the Enroll button to the far right of the course title and description. If you click on the blue hyperlinked title of the course instead of the Enroll button, you will get an Access Denied error message or only be allowed to view items that have been made accessible to guests.

After you click on the enroll button, you will arrive at the Self Enrollment screen. In some instances, an access code will be required for enrollment in the course. Your instructor will give you this code. The code is case sensitive, so be sure to enter it exactly as directed by your instructor. Once you enter the access code or if none is required, click the Submit button to enroll or the Cancel button if you wish to abort the process.

If you submit for enrollment in a course, you should get a confirmation that you have been successfully enrolled. Click OK to complete the submission process and to enter the course.

Once you enter the course you can explore by clicking the titles of the menu items on the left. You may click on the My Institution tab if you wish to return to your home page in Blackboard.

When you return to the My Institution screen, you will see that the course has been added to your My Courses box.
