About the Dental Assisting Program

Recognized by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners, HCC's Dental Assisting program features dental assisting faculty who are knowledgeable and well-versed in the subject matter. Students get hands-on experience in HCC’s dental lab, which is well equipped for pre-clinical education.

 

What does a dental assistant do?

  • Performs a variety of tasks in patient care, as well as office and laboratory duties
  • Works closely with and under direct supervision of a dentist
  • Sterilizes and disinfects instruments, as well as prepares operatories for procedures
  • Obtains and updates patient medical and dental history
  • Obtains and processes dental radiographic surveys
  • Prepares and manipulates various dental materials
  • Assists the dentist in handling instruments and materials

Dental Assisting Program seeks accreditation

On Jan. 19, the Commission on Dental Accreditation granted HCC a site visit to begin accreditation procedures for the college's Dental Assisting Program. Students, staff, faculty, constituent dental societies, state boards of dentistry, and other interested parties may submit comments regarding HCC's Dental Assisting Program to the Commission. Comments should pertain to the standards, policies, and procedures of HCC's program.
