Maryland State Offerings

Senatorial Scholarship

Award Amounts:
Maryland Senators are given $138,000 to award to students who live within their legislative district. The minimum annual award amount is $400 and the maximum award is $2000.

How to apply:
Complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If your Senator makes his/her own awards, you must call or write to your senator for further instructions.

To determine your legislative district you may:

  • Go to the following web site www.mhec.state.md.us.
  • Access the section For Students and Parents
  • Click on Student Financial AidSources of Information
  • Access the section titled Learn Your Legislative District
  • Click on Find an Address on the upper left hand side of the screen
  • Enter all known information – Street Address, City, Zip Code and County
  • Click on FIND
  • Information will process and you will see the district number at the top of the page under the address you entered.
  • If you need further assistance please contact the Board of Elections at (240)313-2050.

Eligibility Requirements:
You and your parents (if you are a dependent student) must be Maryland residents. You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university, as a full-time or part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student, or attend certain private career schools. You must demonstrate financial need. You must take the SAT 1 or the ACT unless you graduated from high school five or more years ago have earned 24 college credit hours, or are attending a community college or a private career school.
