State grant aids those interested in childcare careers

The Bright Futures Program through the Maryland State Department of Education offers a unique opportunity for childcare providers or people interested in becoming a senior staff childcare provider.

HCC Alumni Flower and Garden Show

The 14th Annual Flower and Garden Show will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A variety of vendors will take part in the show, named as one of the area’s premier events.

Pharmacy technician course offered at HCC

Hagerstown Community College is offering a comprehensive 50-hour course to prepare students to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s exam. Technicians work in various health care settings under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

HCC to offer course in estimating for builders and contractors

HCC will offer an introductory course in light construction estimating for building and remodeling contractors. The course is taught by trades instructor Ray Harbaugh, who teaches manual and computer methods of estimating with a focus on customizing the process to the student’s particular trade/business requirements.

Governor’s proposed budget to fund HCC’s Arts & Sciences Complex

Gov. Martin O’Malley’s announcement Tuesday to include $81 million in his proposed FY 09 budget for community college capital improvements includes the state’s share of funding to allow HCC to move forward with the planning and design phase of its proposed Arts & Sciences Complex.

New Web and Multimedia Coordinator hired at HCC

Stephen Recker, of Hagerstown, has been hired by Hagerstown Community College as its Web and Multimedia Coordinator. This is a new position at the college, created to enhance HCC’s presence on the World Wide Web.

Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering two courses on genealogy research beginning February 1 at HCC's Valley Mall Center.

Rental Property Code Compliance Update

HCC’s Center for Continuing Education and the City of Hagerstown are offering a course for investment property owners, entitled “City of Hagerstown Rental Property Code Compliance Update,” on Wednesday, January 23, at HCC's Valley Mall Training Center.

HCC to hold annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration

HCC, the Herald-Mail Company, and the Community Foundation of Washington County will sponsor the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Celebration on Monday, January 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the ARCC.
