Hagerstown Community College Professor Emeritus Ronald L. Ballard has been awarded Senior Poet Laureate for Maryland for 2009.

9-11 Remembrance held in Student Center

9-11 Remembrance

In honor of 9/11, a special remembrance event will be held on Fri., Sept. 11, from noon to 12:30 p.m., in the Student Center. Joe Marschner, assistant professor, music and drama, will be performing patriotic music and HCC student John Luck will speak about his experience as a soldier in Iraq. HCC International Club President Siriki Diabate will speak about the concept of American freedom and his experiences here compared to his homeland in Cote d'Ivoire, Africa. The ceremony will conclude with Scott Schneider on the bagpipes.

HCC is monitoring the spread of swine flu

Administrators at HCC are constantly monitoring state, local, and federal information related to the H1N1 flu (swine flu). An internal task force is meeting regularly to assess the situation and will take action if necessary.

Adjusting to change is an ever evolving reality for everyone.  As we age change seems to come more quickly and adapting to it a little more difficult.  When you couple change with any number of mental health concerns it can set the foundation for stress, overwhelming frustration and in extreme cases hopelessness.

This full-day program will provide an overview of current mental health trends for older adults and indicators of compromised mental health.  The affects of medications on mental health will also be presented.
