Earth Week begins April 18 and runs through Earth Day, April 22. A variety of campus and cleanup activities will be held throughout the week with a special Earth Day Celebration held on Fri., April 22, at 12 noon.

Maryland Heights Hike

Join the Science Club for a hike to Maryland Heights. Enjoy fantastic views of Harper's Ferry, the Potomac River, and the Shenandoah River. The trail is just over four miles and is considered moderately challenging. College transportation will be provided on a first-come, first-served
basis. A college van will leave from Parking Lot K3 at 10 a.m.

Hagerstown City Park Cleanup

City Park Cleanup

Join the Science Club and HCC's new TRiO Program as members and students help clean-up Hagerstown City Park. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Students will leave from campus via carpool and are asked to meet in Parking Lot K3 at 1:30 p.m.

Campus Pride Day

The annual Campus Pride Day will be held on Fri., April 22 (Earth Day). Volunteers are needed to help beautify the HCC campus by weeding, mulching, and planting flowers and trees. No prior gardening experience is required.

Volunteers are asked to sign-up for one of two shifts. The first shift will run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and the second shift will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will receive a complimentary t-shirt and a free lunch for participating.

Science Club Campus Cleanup

Volunteers are needed to help pick up litter and trash from HCC's lawns, parking lots, and roads. Stop by the Student Center between 2:30 and 4 p.m. to pick up gloves and trash bags. Volunteers will be assigned to teams in an effort to cover as much of the campus as possible. A sweet treat will be available to all who volunteer.

Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup

Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup

Join members of the Science Club and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as they clean up MD-64. HCC's adopted portion of the highway is only minutes away from the college campus. Students will meet in the Science Building, room 106, to watch a brief safety video and to distribute supplies. Students will leave from campus via carpool.

No Impact Man Film Showing

No Impact Man Film Showing

Come to the Science Building, room 117, to watch a free showing of "No Impact Man," a documentary that follows  a Manhattan-based family that decides to abandon their high consumption lifestyle and try to make it one year with no net environmental impact.

This event is free and is open to all students. Light refreshments will be served.

Campus Recycling Drive

Campus Recycling Drive

The HCC Science Club is sponsoring a campus-wide recycling drive during Earth Week, April 18 through April 22 to see how much can be recycled in one week. Follow the blue and green arrows in each building to locate the recycling bins. Contents of the recycling bins will be placed in outdoor cages located in front of the Student Center, the ARCC, and the Career Programs Building so that everyone on campus can see all the plastic, aluminum, and glass that has been saved from the landfill.
