Using a Patient-Center Approach in Providing Dementia Care

This full-day seminar will provide participants with information about how to develop a patient-centered environment for individuals with dementia.  A patient-centered approach focuses on redirecting resistant behavior in a positive manner which has shown to decrease aggressive/defiant behavior and help create a positive working environment for both patients and staff.  See the pdf file below.

From 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., visit the Robinwood Players' "Haunted Theater" in HCC's Kepler Theater. Immediately after, students are invited to the "Poe Ball" Halloween Costume Party, which will be held from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the Student Center. Sponsored by the English Club and the SGA, the Poe Ball will feature great food, prizes, a DJ and dancing, as well as lots of fun surprises.

SGA hosts "Angels and Demons" movie night

HCC's Student Government Association (SGA) will host a free movie night for students on Fri., Sept. 25 and Sat., Sept. 26. The film "Angels and Demons" will be shown. Based on the novel by Dan Brown, best-selling author of "The Da Vinci Code," this film stars Tom Hanks, who reprises his role as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon.

All shows will be held in the Kepler Theater.

Adjusting to change is an ever evolving reality for everyone.  As we age change seems to come more quickly and adapting to it a little more difficult.  When you couple change with any number of mental health concerns it can set the foundation for stress, overwhelming frustration and in extreme cases hopelessness.

This full-day program will provide an overview of current mental health trends for older adults and indicators of compromised mental health.  The affects of medications on mental health will also be presented.

Senator Cardin will visit HCC's campus on Wed., Aug. 12, to hold a community open forum on healthcare reform. The forum will begin at 1 p.m. in the Kepler Theater and is open to the public. There will be no sign-up for speakers and it is a first-come, first-served basis on the microphone.
