Begin to Sew

Jump into your first sewing project while learning how to choose fabrics, take measurements, sew by hand, maximize your wardrobe, and use and maintain your machine. No experience required! In six weeks you'll begin to master the techniques needed to create simple garments or home decorating projects from commercial patterns. Project options include: apron, pants or skirt, curtains, vest, table runner and matching placemats. Required: a pair of sewing scissors, pins, and a measuring tape. Recommended: The Singer Complete Photo Guide to Sewing, and your own sewing machine.

Intermediate Sewing

You'll enhance your basic sewing skills with pattern adjustments, layout, cutting, marking, seam finishes and embellishments, collars, zippers, buttonholes, and other techniques. Practice these techniques on a project with the guidance of the instructor. Bring your sewing machine and basic equipment to every class. Prerequisite: Begin to Sew, or permission of the instructor.

Beginning Crochet Workshop

You've always wanted to try your hand at crocheting, and now you can! You'll walk away from this hands-on workshop with the basic skills and confidence to start your new hobby of crocheting. Plus you'll make a 'granny square' that can be used as a coaster or the inspiration and foundation for a pillow, scarf, afghan, or other project. Bring your own crochet hook and yarn. Instructor will provide a list of recommended materials in advance.

Iris Paper Folding

Iris paper folding is a wonderful technique that looks difficult, but is fairly easy to master. It makes gorgeous greeting cards and can be incorporated into scrapbooking and other crafts. Join us for a two-hour workshop to complete a holiday-themed card and learn how you can create additional projects at home. Bring your own scissors; all other materials will be provided.

Learn the Heritage Craft of Chair Caning

Restore and repair your rocking chairs, foot stools, and dining room chairs back to their original woven beauty. You will learn the many hands-on techniques in the weaving process needed to restore the piece back to its original splendor. Create your own woven seat on a small stool or work on an existing project as a way of learning the chair caning techniques. Reward your children and grandchildren with a hand woven gift that will last a lifetime. Bring a bucket, scissors, towel, measuring tape, pencil, one dozen clothes pins, and paper to class. Other materials may be purchased from the instructor.
