The letter forms are done with a pressure-sensitive pointed pen, instead of the flat nib used in most calligraphy writing.  The pointed pen can be used to create variations beyond the traditional formal script.  Admired for its beauty, grace and fluidity, copperplate is perhaps the most popular writing style for social correspondence.  In this course we will explore the use of copperplate addressing and proper etiquette for invitations.  You will use this lovely script for years to come. Previous experience in the copperplate technique is helpful.

Calligraphy
This is a course for beginners.  Learn this very graceful alphabet script.  The name copperplate comes from the 18th century copperplate engravings.  These letters are done with a pressure-sensitive pointed nib pen.  Once you have mastered these pen strokes, it becomes easier to put them together to form letters and words.  With practice this script can be a great source of pleasure and creativity.  A materials kit with all cooperplate supplies may be purchased in the first class session from the instructor for a $20 fee.
