Ladew Topiary Gardens

Enjoy Spring in all its glory with a guided tour of the Ladew Topiary Gardens! With over 20 garden rooms, which are "devoted to a single color, a plant or a theme," and over 100 topiaries, the gardens of Ladew are the perfect place to take in the blooming bulbs, annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees of late May. You'll also enjoy a guided tour of the Manor House, full of beautiful antiques and an Oval Library with 2,500 books and a secret door! Enjoy lunch on your own in the cafe, peruse the gift shop, and spend time meandering the gardens. Registration includes admission, two guided tours, and motor coach transportation with gratuities.

James and Dolley Madison's Montpelier

Join us for a springtime excursion to Montpelier, the 18th century home of James and Dolley Madison, in Orange, Virginia. Today, Montpelier's grounds contain 2650 acres and represents the time following Madison's presidential retirement in 1817. Follow the Madisons through a docent-led tour, learning how they lived and entertained here. The plantation grounds contain a visitor center holding a gift shop, gallery, cafe, orientation theater, and the newly installed exhibit, "The Mere Distinction of Color," portraying the history of slavery in America. The estate also contains 8 miles of walking trails, formal gardens, a 1910 train depot with a permanent exhibit, "In the Time of Segregation." Enroute, Roger Swartz will lecture on James Madison as the "Father of the Constitution" and how Dolley Madison changed the roles of "First Lady." Registration includes motor coach transportation and gratuities, as well as admission to Montpelier. Enjoy lunch on your own.

Washington, D.C., Genealogy Research Trip

Spend a full day researching your ancestry at either the Daughters of the American Revolution Library or the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Before the trip, you will have an opportunity to discuss your research goals with the instructor, who will make a recommendation as to which resource would be best for you to visit for the day. Lunch is on your own but may be purchased within walking distance of all facilities. Registration includes transportation to and from D.C.

Washington, D.C., Escape

Join your friends as you travel to Washington for a day to relax and explore all your favorite museums on the Mall in complete leisure. The motor coach will drop you off and pick you up at the Smithsonian Castle, allowing for plenty of exploration time in one or more of the historic museums on the Mall or shopping. Fee includes: fully-equipped motor coach transportation and gratuity. Departure is from the Valley Mall.
