Nursing Refresher Skills Lab

Concurrent enrollment in, or prior completion of, Nurse Refresher Course Part I - Classroom Theory is required. This course is the pre-requisite for the Nurse Refresher Course Part III - Clinical Practice. Classes meet on Tuesday evenings from 6-10 pm in the state-of-the-art simulation lab. During Skills Lab, students review the basic skills needed to provide nursing care, such as: sterile techniques, wound care, central line dressing changes, IV and catheter insertion, medication administration, and NG tube placement. Lab supplies are included in the cost of the class.

Nurse Refresher Theory Part I

This course is designed for RNs and LPNs and consists of 80 classroom hours. Areas of concentrations include: delivery of care utilizing the nursing process; medication calculation and administration; adult Medical/Surgical nursing; current issues, trends, and nursing practice. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-10 pm. Successful completion requires an 80% or higher average score on four exams. There is a required textbook, the cost of which is in addition to the class fees.

This course provides information related to information related to the practice of echocardiography. Topics include: pediatric cardiology (common and complex lesions), the CARE Bill, surgically corrected congenital heart disease, and porcine heart dissection exhibiting standard echo planes.

Nurse Refresher Clinical

Successful completion of Nurse Refresher Course Step I - Classroom Theory and Step II - Skills Lab are required to enrolling in this course. The course is designed to provide clinical application of the knowledge and skills gained from the classroom. Students are required to complete 60 clinical hours in a setting with a facility-assigned preceptor. Requirement include: inactive Maryland license, AHA-BLS certification, criminal background check, physical exam, and immunizations. Clinical placements will be coordinated through the Health Care Programs Manager.
