PCCN/CCRN Review

This is a three day intense critical care review course intended for nurses who are planning on taking the AACN-CCRN or AACN-PCCN certification exam or as a clinical proactive review seminar. The lectures and time allotment are based on the exam blueprints which cover all body systems, pathology, physiology, pathophysiology, assessment strategies and treatment options for medical and surgically critically ill patients. This course will benefit those who have critical and/or progressive care experience and need/want a clinical update and a review of the latest best proactive and those who have strides and need/want a final review prior to taking the CCRN/PCCN certification exam. This seminar is not intended as a basic critical care course and is recommended for nurses with a least one year of critical care or progressive care experience.

Nurse Refresher Screening

This course is designed as a screening tool to assist RN's and LPN's who are interested in applying for the Nurse Refresher program. Potential Nurse Refresher candidates will complete a background check and verification of their nursing licensure status through the Maryland Board of Nursing. Refunds will not be issued for students who fail to meet eligiblity guidelines. All completed background check forms must be either hand delivered or sent via US mail. We cannot accept faxes or attachments due to the confidential nature of the forms.

Nurse Refresher Skills Lab-Part II

Concurrent enrollment in, or prior completion of, Nurse Refresher Course Part I - Classroom Theory is required. This course is the pre-requisite for the Nurse Refresher Course Part III - Clinical Practice. During skills lab, students review the basic skills needed to provide nursing care, such as: sterile techniques, wound care, central line dressing changes, IV and catheter insertion, medication administration, and NG tube placement. Lab supplies are included in the cost of the class.

Nurse Refresher Clinical Practice

Successful completion of Nurse Refresher Course Step I - Classroom Theory and Step II - Skills Lab are required to enrolling in this course. The course is designed to provide clinical application of the knowledge and skills gained from the classroom. Students are required to complete 60 clinical hours in a setting with a facility-assigned preceptor. Requirements include: inactive Maryland license, AHA-BLS certification, criminal background check, physical exam, and immunizations. Clinical placements will be coordinated through the Allied Health Program Manager.

Nurse Refresher Course Theory Portion Hybrid

This course is the first in a three-step series designed for registered or licensed practical nurses to reinstate an inactive Maryland nursing license and consists of a hybrid class with 40 classroom hours and online course work totaling 80 hours of content. Areas of concentration include: delivery of care utilizing the nursing process; medication calculation and administration; adult medical/surgical nursing; and current issues, trends, and nursing practice. Students are expected to complete assignments on a weekly basis for the online component. Successful completion requires an 80 percent or higher average score on four exams and completion of 10 weekly assignments with an average score of 80 percent. There is a required textbook, the cost of which is in addition to the class fees.

Winter 2017


NCLEX Review

This course prepares nursing students for the NCLEX exam. Students will take a pre-test of the overall body systems, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, assessment and care, as well as nursing process, and legal and ethical issues practice. Emphasis will be focused on test-taking strategies and areas where students exhibit need for additional instruction. A post-test to review learner success will also be administered.
