Student Center Expansion Project

HCC broke ground on its Student Center expansion on Friday, Sept. 12, 2014. The $15 million dollar project will add an additional 29,229 sq.ft. to the existing 19,000 sq.-ft. Student Center and will feature enhanced student lounge areas, study spaces, and meeting rooms for campus clubs. An additional 10,000 sq.-ft. outdoor patio and recreation area will also be included as part of the renovation, bringing the total square footage of the indoor and outdoor areas to more than 59,000 sq.ft. In addition, existing student services offices and departments will be expanded including the HCC Campus Store, the Student Activities Office, the Dean of Students Office, and the TRiO Student Support Services Office. The Hilltop Grill, the Student Center eatery, will be enlarged from its current seating capacity of 60 to 300 and will also include a new coffee bar and café. Outdoor dining and activity space will be enhanced with the addition of sand volleyball court off the patio. New smart device charging stations and video walls will make it easier for students to stay plugged-in to campus life. A student walkway will also be installed on the second floor of the Learning Resource Center, or LRC, allowing students to walk directly to the Student Center from the college library. Morgan-Keller Construction is the construction firm that was awarded the project, which is scheduled to be completed in fall 2015.
