Hagerstown Community College uses the Moodle Joule 2 learning management system (LMS). Moodle can be accessed through Quick Links from the HCC home page.
As a new or more experienced user, you have two ways to learn. HCC Learning Technology System Specialist Brenda Huffman has compiled a set of Moodle instructor resources. Access these by signing in to your Moodle account; Moodle Instructor Resources will appear as a course that you can explore. Brenda also offers individual training on Moodle use, customized to the instructor’s needs. Training is available for users at all levels. To make an appointment, or for help if you can’t access the Instructor Resources course site, please send an email to Brenda Huffman (email@example.com).
Certificate for Online Adjunct Teaching (COAT) Training
Instructors who teach online courses must first complete the Certificate for Online Adjunct Teaching (COAT), an online training course developed by Maryland Online. At HCC, the course is taught through Online Education and Instructional Support Services. The course is free to HCC faculty members. New online adjunct instructors are registered for the next version of the course. If you are registered, you will receive an email welcoming you to the course and explaining the next steps. If you would like to take the training but have not received an enrollment welcoming email, please contact Meredith Sumner (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Respondus: A Tool for Creating & Administering Online Tests
The testing tool Respondus can be used to create tests from Word files or from publishers’ testbanks—or to lessen the likelihood of cheating on an online test. HCC owns a Respondus license, so you can get started at any time. Either 1) download the software from the link in the Moodle Instructor Resources site, or 2) using an on-campus faculty office computer, download the software from the LTDeploy folder of the interdepartmental (Z:) drive. Installation instructions are in both locations. Respondus sponsors webinars to help users learn. For Respondus help or training at HCC, contact Brenda Huffman in Learning Technology (email@example.com).
Direct Response Systems: Clicker Equipment & Training
Hagerstown Community College owns several sets of TurningPoint clickers that can be used to create student engagement and to implement innovative teaching strategies such as on-the-spot learning assessments, instant polls, and game-based learning. The vendor, Turning Technologies, offers in-depth tutorials and best-practices case studies from other instructors. If you would like additional training, please contact Linda Cornwell in the Fletcher Center (firstname.lastname@example.org). TurningPoint is eager to help us make the most of the equipment by providing customized training.
Clicker availability will vary depending on instructor use, but some sets are usually available.
