“What are you, nuts”! That is the response I expected when I announced to my family and friends that I had made the decision to go to college. Why- you ask- would that be the reaction? The reason is simple. I am a 48 year old, single mother of two teenage girls who has been in the work force for the last 30 years. I was pleasantly surprised when the reactions were really positive. One of my older sisters even asked me, “So you finally figured out what you want to be when you grow up?” I laughed and replied, “Who said anything about growing up?”

When the first question popped up, I panicked and said to myself, “What the bleep does that mean?” OMG, what did I get myself into!! I calmed myself, and finished the test. Hey! Who knew, I actually tested into Math 99, which after all is better than 98. (more…)

The Nursing Scholarship Program is a selective program of the U.S. Government that helps alleviate the critical shortage of registered nurses currently experienced by certain types of health care facilities by helping needy students complete their registered nurse training. In exchange for the scholarship, upon graduation, the newly minted nurses work at these types of facilities for at least 2 years.

Nursing Scholars fulfilling their service commitment receive a competitive salary and benefits package, which they negotiate directly with the employing facility.

Journal Entry – Jan. 24th to Feb. 12th, 2011

Jan. 24th – I’m going to bed now after a long day of pumping anti-“Tunisia uprising” information through the Egypt Radio Television Union. I hope all is well in the morning. I need my rest. I think I feel a slight tickle in the back of my throat.

Jan. 25th – So, I woke up today, expecting to have a regular, back-to-normal, kind of day. You know, tweaking the institutional system to prolong my presidency, imprisoning a few political opposition figures and young activists without trial; all in the name of Emergency Law. When a staff member informed me that the “Tunisia uprising” had inspired a few protests here in Egypt. I’ve ordered my faithful servants in the Police Department to take care of it. Those guys are good. I should be able to sleep tonight with no more worries. (more…)
