Academic Advisor - Career Focus (Full-time) #12-039

The Academic Advisor works in direct relationship with the students, advising them in their course selection, making educational plans, and assisting them in the potential career and transfer possibilities while in the community college setting.

The schedule for this position is as follows:

Non-peak periods

  • Monday-Thursday:  12pm-8pm

Peak periods: Late July- beginning of September & beginning of November through beginning of January

  • Monday-Thursday: 12pm-8pm
  • Friday:  8:30am-4:30pm

Qualifications: 
Education and experience - Master's degree in Counseling or Education preferred, bachelor's degree required. Knowledge and experience working with a student database system preferred. Coursework in counseling and/or career development preferred; background working with faculty and students in a community college setting and/or a vocational high school is highly desirable is highly desirable. The individual must be proficient with technology, career related computer resources, specialized vocabulary used in career development and administering and interpreting career interest inventories. Skills and abilities - Ability to work with a diverse population of students. Interpersonal skills to guide students in their academic decision-making; excellent organizational and planning skills in dealing with the career and transfer student population; advising and communication skills to deal effectively with students, faculty, staff, coaches, and community leaders; good computer skills, especially in the use of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Internet, and Email.
