Faculty, Dental Hygiene Program #12-070

Hagerstown Community College's first credit-bearing Dental Assisting Program started in Fall 2009.  This program provides students with the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to become an integral and qualified member of the dental team.  Recognized by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners, HCC's Dental Assisting Program features dental assisting faculty who are knowledgeable and well-versed in the subject matter.  Students get hands-on experience in HCC's dental lab, which is well equipped for pre-clinical education.  The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) granted HCC a site visit to begin accreditation procedures for the Dental Assisting program.  The site visit will take place in April 2012. 

HCC is also in the process of writing and submitting the initial Dental Hygiene Program application to the Commission on Dental Accreditation.  At this time, HCC is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track dental hygiene faculty position.  This position will participate in support of the Dental Hygiene program application to CODA.   The instructor will be responsible for teaching the College's Dental Hygiene curricula, procure material and instructional resources, work with adjunct faculty, and be responsible for the ongoing development, evaluation, and revision of the Dental Program Curricula.

Qualifications: 

Education and experience - Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a current Maryland Dental Hygienist license. Teaching experience required with a background in education theory and practice, current concept knowledge relative to subjects teaching, and current clinic practice experience. Certified Dental Assistant experience preferred. Skills and abilities - Strong organizational and writing skills, attention to detail, excellent advising/counseling skills. Working knowledge of state of Maryland dental hygiene practice, preferred working knowledge of chair-side assisting, infection control, sterilization techniques, effective laboratory skills, with teaching experience preferred. CPR/BLS current certification requried.
