Connecting to Library
Resources from Home
The Library has 50 databases and reference sources online, as well as our catalog.
To top it all off, we also offer OneSearch where you can search everything at once!
So how do you get into all this good stuff if you're not on campus? Here's how:
- Whenever you're at home, work, or somewhere other than HCC,
just go to our web site. Then...
- Go to the article databases page for journal and newspaper articles...
- Or go to the online reference books page for dictionaries, encyclopedias,
and
specialized subject works.
- If you want one big, exciting search, then go to OneSearch in the
upper left corner,
or on our home page, for the main search box
and the link to advanced options.
- In each case, you'll find links to enter resources or submit a search.
When you click, you will be
sent to another page to login. All you
need is your last name and HCC ID number.
If you have any trouble with logging in to library resources, please send us email,
or give us a call at (301) 790-2800 x237.
Please note: We are aware of some common problems that you can easily avoid
with these simple precautions.
- If you use AOL, you will want to minimize the AOL window once you
are connected, then open another
browser (such as MS Internet
Explorer) separately.
- If you have pop-up blocking software that you installed by itself, you
may need to turn it off while using
our electronic resources. Many of the
interfaces do things that look like pop-ups to the software, but are not.
- Finally, be sure your browser is set to accept at least first-party cookies.
This control is typically found
in the "Tools" menu under "Options." You
may need to find a tab or button called "Privacy" to see the settings
and
change them.
