HCC graduates 368

(May 16, 2005) - Hagerstown Community College held its 58th annual commencement on Saturday, May 15, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. in the Athletic, Recreation, and Community Center. HCC President Dr. Guy Altieri and members of the board of trustees presented 368 degrees and certificates before a crowd of more than 2,000.

Dr. Donna Rudy, HCC dean of student affairs, reports that 196 students received associate degrees in the transfer curricula, designed for students planning to continue their education at a four-year institution. The top choices of colleges for HCC graduates in the transfer program are Frostburg State University, Shepherd College, Shippensburg University and University of Maryland. Other transfer colleges include Johns Hopkins University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Shenandoah University and Virginia Tech.

Nursing was the most popular curricula for the two-year, career-oriented students with 54 graduates. In the transfer program, general studies and business administration were the largest concentrations.

Awards for academic achievement were presented at the Honors Convocation, held on May 12.
