Art show and sale to benefit HCC Foundation

The Hagerstown Community College Foundation, Inc., will host a reception, show and sale of paintings by R. Benjamin Jones on November 18 and 19 in the Kepler Theater. Event times are 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The event is free and open to the public. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the HCC Foundation - Waltersdorf/Henson Endowment Challenge for student scholarship assistance and a teaching and learning excellence fund. Proceeds from five previous shows have totaled $100,000.

Maryland artist R. Benjamin Jones is an accomplished painter portraying scenes from his native Maryland, the state’s Eastern Shore, the Amish of Lancaster County (Pa.), New England, and a recent trip to Florence and Tuscany, Italy. He seeks to portray the gentle beauty of the world in his paintings of delicate flowers, New England streets and harbors, Amish faces, rough Chesapeake Bay watermen and rose-covered cottages along island roads. He studied at the Maryland Institute of Fine Arts in Baltimore, the University of Maryland and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

Jones’ works have been shown in many galleries and museums including the Lockwood Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk, Hurlbutt Gallery in Greenwich, Greenwich Art Society, Greenwich Workshop in Southport, McBride Gallery in Annapolis, The Greenbrier, Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Baltimore Museum of Arts and The Smithsonian.

Raffle tickets, $20 each, are available for a chance to win an original R. Benjamin Jones painting. The winner, whose name will be drawn at the Saturday show, does not need to be present to win. Note cards featuring a painting by the artist will be sold.
