HCC honors academic achievement in year-end ceremony

Hagerstown Community College held its fourth annual Honors Convocation on Thursday, May 18, in the Athletic, Recreation, and Community Center. The event recognized special awards, Phi Theta Kappa awards, graduation honors, Maryland Zeta Chapter of Lambda Nu for Radiologic Sciences awards, and dean’s list honors.
Following remarks from HCC President Guy Altieri, attendees heard from Judith Oleks, vice president of academic affairs; Loretta Thornhill, assistant professor of paralegal studies and public administration; and two students, Katie Watson and Jerilyn Cogan.
The awards were presented by the chairs of the academic divisions and recognized by Altieri and the board of trustees. Winners of the competitive awards include Barbara J. Lloyd and Rachael V. McLoud, both of Hagerstown, for the All-Maryland Academic Team for Community Colleges; Alexis D. Shingleton of Clear Spring for the Alumni Association Life Membership Award; Larry D. Kump of Falling Waters, W.V., for the Alumni Community Citation Award; Deborah A. Tucker of Harrisonville, Pa., Heather A. Hockman of Hagerstown and Wei Chien Huang of Frederick, Md., for the Award for Personal and Professional Growth in Nursing; Rachael V. McLoud of Hagerstown for the Campus Leadership Award; Barbara J.
