HCC offers Kindermusik courses for infants and toddlers

Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering two Kindermusik courses at the Village at Robinwood in Hagerstown.
The Kindermusik courses are classes specially suited to help parents share music and communicate with their children. The first of the Kindermusik courses, “Peek-A-Boo! I Love You!” is intended for newborns and young children up to 18 months. This week-long program helps parents find new ways to say “I love you” to their infants through such things as American Sign Language, soap bubbles, blue-star sponges, and parent-baby dances. In addition, parents can meet with other newborns and families in the community and learn how music improves the child development process.
The second half of the Kindermusik courses, “Zoo Train,” is intended for children between 18 months and 3 years of age. In this program, pretend play and music help to improve toddlers’ verbal and physical growth. Singing, imitating sounds, rhyming and object identification will foster language skills, and help build communication skills between parent and child.

Both courses are taught by HCC instructor Shonelle Strausbaugh. The first section for newborns and infants is offered during the week of June 16, from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. The second section for toddlers is offered during the week of June 16, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., and again during the week of July 14, from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m.
