HCC’s College for Kids offers summer program for first graders

Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering a variety of courses designed for elementary children entering first grade in its summer College for Kids enrichment program.
     
Courses offered include the following:

Science Fun! The Magical Five Senses – June 23 through June 27. Children will experience hands-on projects, games, story time, crafts and music relating to the five senses. Cost is $144.
     
Amazon Adventure – June 23 through June 27. Children will learn about the rain forest and its habitat through projects, games, music, and art. Cost is $144.
     
All About Animals – June 30 through July 3. Children will learn about pet care, the different kinds of pets and the responsibilities that go along with owning a pet. Cost is $125.
     
World of Icky Bugs- June 30 through July 3 and July 14 through July 18. Children will learn about entomology and the science of bugs, and participate in bug gathering, games, art, and more. Cost is $125.
     
Exploration Station- July 7 through July 11. Children will learn about the creatures that inhabit the ocean, the jungle, and the desert. They will collect and examine various specimens from nature and grow their own crystals. Cost is $144.
     
The Circus is in Town- July 7 through July 11. Children will learn about all aspects of circus life from clowns to animals and music. Cost is $144.

Dino Might- July 14 through July 18 and July 21 through July 25. Children learn about dinosaurs through stories, music, art projects, and games. Children will also take part in a fossil hunt, create their own dinosaur, and build a dinosaur nest. Cost is $144.
     
Blast Off Into Space- July 21 through July 25 and July 28 through August 1. Children will study the planets, the stars, and earth’s moon as they learn about the solar system. Children will also learn about seasonal change and will take part in a variety of activities including solar system role play, edible solar systems, model making, and more. Cost is $144.
     
All first grade College for Kids courses are held in the Robinwood Early Childhood Center on Robinwood Drive in Hagerstown. The center is used by the Washington County Board of Education during the school year and is specially furnished for younger children. All courses in the College for Kids first grade program are taught by full-time elementary school teachers.
