HCC to offer computer forensics program

This fall, Hagerstown Community College will offer a computer forensics option for those students interested in pursuing an associate of science degree in information systems technology.
     
The 68 to 70 credit computer forensics program is designed to provide an introduction to the forensic investigation aspect of computes and related electronic data systems. The program includes an overview of forensic evidence collection methods, investigative techniques, and procedures suitable for persons exploring the computer forensics field as a career option or for those in need of training for promotion.
     
Computer forensics classes offered at HCC for the fall 2008 semester include Computer Forensics I – Principles and Practices (IST-166), which is offered on Wednesdays from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Computer Forensics I is an introductory course in electronic evidence; what types exist, where it may be found, and the methods used to investigate it. The course runs from August 27 through December 10. The second half of the computer forensics course sequence, Computer Forensics II (IST-266), will be offered in the spring 2009 semester.
     
The computer forensics program is a collaborative effort between the administration of justice and the information systems technology departments at HCC.
