Bookkeeping certification course offered at HCC

This fall, Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering a certification course for professional bookkeepers.

HCC has partnered with the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB) to establish the certified bookkeeper (CB) credential, which consists of testing in six subject areas, signing a code of ethics and demonstrating two years work experience as a bookkeeper. A nationally recognized certification, students will prepare for the certified bookkeeper examination by mastering the skills and knowledge required in such areas as book and tax depreciation, payroll, recording and costing out merchandise inventory, and internal controls and fraud prevention.

Taught by HCC instructor Tory VanReenen, owner of Banks & Banks Bookkeeping & Accounting Service, this course is offered on Wednesdays, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., at HCC’s Valley Mall Center starting September 10. The course will also be offered one Saturday a month, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., from September 27 through December 16 at the Valley Mall Center.
