HCC offers child care certification courses this fall

This fall, Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering a variety of certification courses specially geared towards child care providers.
The first course, School Age Child Care Seminar I, is offered on Thursdays, from Sept. 4 through Dec. 18, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Fun and Learning Center on Corello Drive in Hagerstown. The course satisfies the Maryland Child Care Administration course requirements for group leaders in school age child care settings. Topics include behavior management strategies, scheduling, and age appropriate activities.
The second course available, Preschool Child Care I, is offered on Tuesdays, from Sept. 16 through Dec. 9, from 6 to 10 p.m. on HCC’s main campus. This course is the first of three classed required by the Maryland of Office of Child Care in order to become a senior staff member in any preschool facility that administers care to children ages two through six. Other required courses include Preschool Child Care, which is offered in the spring, and Child Care Communications courses, which is offered in both fall and spring.
The fall section of Child Care Communications, entitled “Communication Skills for Child Care Professionals,” is a brand new course that is offered on Saturdays from Sept. 6 through Sept. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on HCC’s main campus. This course is required by the Maryland Office of Child Care and can be used for nine hours of child care continuing education in the core of knowledge category of “professionalism.” The spring section begins Jan. 10.
