HCC offers lead paint abatement courses

Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering two courses for lead paint abatement certification this fall.

The first course, “Lead Paint Supervisor Refresher Course,” is offered on Friday, Sept. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in HCC’s Valley Mall Center. Topics covered include new abatement technologies and products. This course meets the training requirements to maintain a Maryland Certification as a Lead Paint Abatement Supervisor, and the course has been approved for both maintenance and repainting supervisors as well as demolition supervisors. Members of the Washington County Landlord and Property Owners Association (WCLPOA) will receive a $10 discount.

The second course, “Lead Paint M & R Supervisor Training for Maryland,” is offered on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in HCC’s Valley Mall Center. Taught by Chris Gunther of ECTC, this course meets the most recent training guidelines for certification as a Lead Paint Abatement Maintenance and Repainting Supervisor by the Maryland Department of the Environment.

All rental property owners and licensed contractors that remove lead paint must be certified by the Maryland Department of the Environment in order to do so. More details on who must be certified to remove lead paint can me found on the Maryland Department of the Environment Web site www.mde.md.state.us.
