HCC offers active outdoor classes for all ages

Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering a variety of outdoor courses specially designed for nature enthusiasts.
The first course, Fly Fishing for Beginners, is offered on Sat., Sept. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fly fishing instructor and author John Clatterbaugh teaches the course and will provide students with an in-depth, introductory look into the sport of fly fishing. A variety of topics will be discussed and tips on choosing the correct rod, reel, fly line and leaders will be given.
The second course, Hawk Migration—Come Witness the Incredible Journey, is offered on Tues., Sept. 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Taught by Dave Weesner, area birding specialist, students will learn about fall raptor migration, bird silhouettes, identification, equipment, and habitat, with special emphasis on birds and raptors native to Washington County and the state of Maryland. The lecture part of the course will be held on Sept. 16 and will be followed with a fieldtrip on Sat., Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
