HCC offers child care certification courses this spring

Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education will once again offer the next installment of its child care certification courses for the spring 2009 semester.
“Communication Skills for Child Care Professionals” is a new course that is offered on Saturdays, from Jan. 10 through Jan. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on HCC’s main campus. This course is designed for childcare professionals as an introduction to the basic concepts needed to develop strong communication skills for working in a child care center. Topics include speaking, writing, interpersonal communication strategies, and critical techniques, with a special emphasis on communication with parents and co-workers, as well as the communication issues that typically occur in a child care center day.
“Communication Skills for Child Care Professionals” is required by the Maryland Office of Child Care for childcare center pre-licensing for those entering the field after July 1, 2008 and may also be used for child care professionals who are continuing their education.
