HCC awards 392 degrees and certificates

Hagerstown Community College held its 62nd annual commencement on Saturday, May 16, at 9:30 a.m. in the Athletic, Recreation, and Community Center. HCC President Dr. Guy Altieri and members of the board of trustees presented 392 degrees and certificates before a crowd of more than 2,000.
     
Dr. Donna Rudy, HCC dean of student affairs, reports that 243 students received associate degrees in the transfer curricula, designed for students planning to continue their education at a four-year institution. The top choices of colleges for HCC graduates in the transfer program are Shepherd University, Frostburg State University, Shippensburg University, and Towson University. Other transfer colleges include the University of Maryland, Penn State University, American University, West Virginia University, Mount St. Mary’s University, and Salisbury University.
     
Nursing was the most popular curricula for the two-year, career-oriented students with 33 graduates. In the transfer program, business administration and general studies were the largest concentrations.
     
Awards for academic achievement were presented at the Honors Convocation, held on May 14.
