The 229th U.S. Army Band performs Sept. 20

The Hagerstown Community College Alumni Association will host its last summer concert of the season when the 229th U.S. Army Band takes the stage on Sun., Sept. 20, at 4 p.m., in HCC’s Alumni Amphitheater.

A traditional 48-piece military band, the 229th U.S. Army Band has been part of the Maryland National Guard for most of the 20th century and is one of the few military bands to have received battle honors. The 48 citizen-soldiers who make up the band come from a variety of diverse backgrounds, including government workers, police officers, teachers, professional musicians, and college students. The band performs a variety of music, including contemporary, popular, and traditional military music and most often performs at military ceremonies, public concerts, parades, and other public events.

This concert is free and is open to the public. For more information, contact Lisa Stewart, HCC coordinator, alumni relations and annual giving, at 301-790-2800, ext. 346, or via e-mail at stewartl@hagerstowncc.edu.
