Calligraphy courses now offered

Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education will offer a calligraphy art class this fall as part of its Lifelong Learning courses.

Intended for students of all skill levels, “Calligraphy Art” is a calligraphy study group that provides students with the opportunity to apply the fundamentals of layout and design to individual projects. Students will study uncial hand, which was used by scribes to illustrate books from the fifth through eighth centuries. Students are encouraged to bring their favorite poem, text, or phrases to class for practice. This course is offered on Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., on HCC’s main campus, beginning Sept. 23. Cost is $70.
