(May 25, 2010) - Two Hagerstown Community College students were recently awarded scholarships from the Hispanic Association of Hagerstown (HAH). Jonathan Almonte, of Hagerstown, and Kathya Flamenco, of Smithsburg, each received a part-time scholarship from HAH for the summer 2010 semester.
Almonte is a computer science major and after graduating from HCC in 2013, he plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete his bachelor’s degree and ultimately wants to own his own business. Flamenco, an elementary education major, will graduate in fall 2011. After graduation, she plans to transfer to the University of Maryland to obtain her bachelor’s and master’s degrees before becoming a third grade teacher.
The HAH scholarship is intended to support the Hispanic student body of HCC. Scholarships are offered by semester and fall 2010 scholarship recipients will be announced later this summer. Scholarship funds are raised annually at the Hagerstown Hispanic Festival. This year’s festival will be held on Sun., Sept. 19, at the Hagerstown Fairgrounds.
