Astronomy workshop offered for middle school teachers

Hagerstown Community College has announced a new workshop available to middle school teachers in June 2010 through the Maryland Space Grant Consortium. The workshop, entitled “Youth for Astronomy and Engineering Program Middle School Educators’ Workshop,” will be offered on Tues., June 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is located on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus in Baltimore.

The workshop will feature hands-on classroom activities, presentations on space weather and the solar system, as well as a visit to the Morris W. Offit Telescope. Cost is $20 per teacher. Fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and admission to all workshop activities. Seating is limited so register early.
