HCC offers advanced photography course

This spring, Hagerstown Community College’s English and Humanities Division is offering a new photography course for advanced students who have experience beyond introductory level photography and digital imaging courses. Photography II (ART 215) will be offered on Thursdays, from 5:30 to 9:05 p.m., beginning Jan. 13. The course will run through April 28.

Taught by HCC instructor and veteran photographer Benita Keller, this course will focus on photographing people, places, events, and environmental portraits. According to Keller, students will study the techniques of photographic masters such as Mary Ellen Mark, Arnold Newman, and Eugene Smith. Students will also learn the commercial applications for shooting at events and places. Several field trips are planned during the course of the semester to allow students the opportunity to practice in the field.

Students interested in this course should have already taken Photography I (ART 115) or a similar photography class or have permission from the instructor. It is recommended that students have a single lens reflex (SLR) camera for this course.
