Kepler Theater Renovation Begins
Submitted by Leigh-Anne Mauk on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 10:36am
The renovation and expansion of the Kepler Theater officially began on Mon., Dec. 6. This renovation includes an addition that will house a dance studio, gallery, classrooms, practice rooms, art rooms, and faculty offices. The renovation space will also include expanded dressing rooms, a costume shop, and extended wardrobe storage.
HCC facilities staff will be providing regular updates to keep students informed about any activities that may interfere with how they normally access buildings from that side of campus. There will be an occasional need for rock blasting but not nearly as extensive as what was needed for the new STEM building. HCC staff will keep students advised of blasting times when it gets closer to the date that this work will be performed.
During the week of December 6, the contractor will be setting up the safety fence around the construction area. Please respect the construction signs and remain outside the protective fencing.
The Kepler Theater will be closed to the public until Nov. 30, 2011. Parking in Lot S and in front of the Kepler Theater will also be closed until the construction is complete. The staircase leading from Lot K to the Kepler Theater will also be closed for the duration of the construction. (The staircase will be remain open until the end of the fall semester).
A new walkway is being constructed that will allow student access from the lower parking lots to Kepler Drive. An additional walkway will lead from Kepler Drive to the Science Building and that side of campus. The new walkway will be in place for the start of spring classes on Jan. 10.
To stay current on construction updates, be sure to check out HCC's Construction Update page for the latest information from the Office of Facilities Management and Planning.
