HCC honors students’ academic achievements at 9th annual Honors Convocation

 

(Release: May 18, 2011) - Hagerstown Community College held its ninth annual Honors Convocation on Thurs., May 12, in its Athletic, Recreation, and Community Center (ARCC). The event recognized special awards, Phi Theta Kappa membership, graduation honors, Maryland Zeta Chapter of Lambda Nu for Radiological Sciences membership, Future Educators Honor Association membership, and dean’s list honors.

Following remarks from HCC President Guy Altieri, attendees heard from Judith Oleks, vice-president of academic affairs; Michael Harsh, professor, English, speech, and drama; and student speakers Tessa L. Walls and Oliver W. Bulley.
The awards were presented by Angela Stoops, director, health sciences division and Karen Hammond, director, nursing division, and recognized by Altieri and the HCC board of trustees.

Winners of the competitive awards include Keri-Jon Faulkner, of Hagerstown, for the All-Maryland Academic Team for Community Colleges – 2011 award and the 2011 Coca-Cola Silver Scholar award; Tessa L. Walls, of Hancock, for the All-Maryland Academic Team for Community Colleges – 2011 award; Angela Lynn Stull Kendall, of Greencastle, Pa., for the Alumni Community Citation Award; John A. Members inducted into the Maryland Zeta Chapter of Lambda Nu for Radiological Sciences include Danielle K. Coyle, of Cascade; Brittany L. Brown and Misty Sanbower, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; Kerri R. Maus, of Hagerstown; Dijana Mitrovic, of Lemoyne, Pa.; Jessica S. Mathis, of Mt. Airy; Danielle N. Garst, of New Windsor, Md.; Michael R. Draper, of South Mountain, Pa.; and Stephanie Crilley, of Waynesboro, Pa. Members of this honor society must have a minimum 3.0 GPA after one full-time semester of a professional program and additional recognition such as a professional paper.

Members inducted into the Future Educators Honor Association include Samantha M. Johns, of Boonsboro; Brittany K. Smetzer, of Clear Spring; April C. Margetson, Alisha M. Poole, Ronnie J. Pruett, and Leigh Stouffer-Young, all of Hagerstown; and Joseph M. Edwards, of Smithsburg. Members of this society must attend at least 75 percent of chapter meetings, activities, and events, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and complete six service hours per year.
