Dental assisting students participate in Convoy of Hope

(Release: October 12, 2011) - Students in Hagerstown Community College’s Dental Assisting Program recently participated in the annual Convoy of Hope on Sept. 24.

Convoy of Hope is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that provides disaster relief and sponsors community outreach programs for impoverished communities at various locations around the world. This year marks the fourth anniversary of the Convoy of Hope event at Hagerstown. At this year’s event, HCC dental assisting students assisted dentists and dental hygienists as they performed screenings and provided recommendations for future dental care. Students also provided educational outreach services to event participants.

“To serve the community we belong to is a special thing,” said Theresa Marks, instructor and program coordinator, dental assisting/hygiene. “Convoy of Hope is a great way for students and dental professionals to serve, educate, and foster good relationships between attendees and the dental community. Participating in Convoy of Hope and the upcoming Mission of Mercy event are ways that we can help make a difference.”

Students who participated in the Convoy of Hope event included Mary Drury, of Clear Spring; Natasha Crouch, of Funkstown; Brandi Bollinger, Daniele Curry, Myia Evans, Rebekah Jenkins, Rachel Lee, Tammy Streletz, and Maegan Taylor, all of Hagerstown; Holly Jackson, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; Lauren St. Clair, of Mercersburg, Pa; Katelyn Hornbaker, of St. Thomas, Pa.; and Sarah Duffey, of Williamsport.
