HCC nursing students donate time, supplies to community

Students in Hagerstown Community College’s Student Nurses Association (SNA) donated time and supplies to several community organizations: Head Start of Washington County, Brook Lane, and the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

The SNA Club collected donations of clothes, materials, supplies, and toys and presented those donations to two families in the Head Start program in December.

“The two families from Head Start who received the gifts were very appreciative,” says SNA member Jessica Rice, of Hagerstown. “They told us that our donations helped to make the holidays a joyous occasion for their children.”

Following the Head Start donation, students in the SNA club also visited Brook Lane where they donated supplies and assisted the patients with decorating their own stockings. The SNA Club also volunteered their time to wrap holiday gifts for the American Red Cross at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown.

“We, the members of the SNA, feel a deep connection with the community that we live and work in,” says Rice. “During our clinical experiences in the Hagerstown area, we learn about the various ways that citizens can be helped through the kindness of others and we want that to be at the forefront of what we do as an organization.”

The SNA Club is open to all pre-nursing, registered nursing, and practical nursing student at Hagerstown Community College. To learn more about HCC’s nursing programs, go to
