Campus Earth Day held April 20


HCC will hold its annual Earth Day Celebration and Campus Pride Day on Fri., April 20. The Earth Day Celebration will begin a 9 a.m. in front of the Career Programs Building. Students, staff, faculty, and the public are invited to attend.

Earth Day Celebration - April 20

HCC's fourth annual Earth Day Celebration will be held at the fountain in front of the Career Programs Building on Fri., April 20. The presentation will begin at 9 a.m. Speakers include HCC volunteers coordinator Irene Young, HCC president Dr. Guy Altieri, and HCC Science Club president Michael Salguero. Following opening remarks, the HCC fountain will be turned back on and children from the HCC Children's Learning Center will perform a song. The program will end with remarks from Salguero.

Campus Pride Day - April 20

The annual Campus Pride Day will be held on Fri., April 20. Volunteers are needed to help beautify the HCC campus by weeding, mulching, and planting flowers and trees. No prior gardening experience is required.

Volunteers are asked to sign-up for one of two shifts. The first shift will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the second shift will run from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Volunteers will receive a complimentary t-shirt and a free lunch for participating. Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to participate.

Additional Activities

  • Free showing of the documentary Waste Land on Fri., April 20, at 7 p.m., in Kepler Theater. This event is open to the public.
  • Earth Day Poster Display on Thurs., April 19, in the 1st Floor Lobby of the STEM Building. See Earth Day themed posters created by Ellen Smith's graphic design students. The posters will be on display until the end of the semester. HCC students and staff/faculty only.
  • Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup on Sat., April 21 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Join the Science Club and members from Phi Theta Kappa to assist in cleaning up HCC's section of MD-63. Students will meet in front of the STEM Building. HCC students only.
  • National Earth Day Outing on Sun., April 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The HCC Science Club is sponsoring a trip to the Smithsonian National Zoo. This outing will also include a light hike and picnic lunch at Great Falls National Park. Space is limited. To reserve your spot, email HCC students only.
