Former Olympian Vicky Bullett takes over for Coach Palmer


(Release: May 1, 2012) - HCC recently hired Vicky Bullet as a full-time physical education instructor and the new head coach of the women’s basketball team. Bullett takes over for long-time HCC coach, Marlys Palmer, who retired in 2012.

Bullett is a graduate of the University of Maryland and one of the most decorated American female basketball players of all time. A two-time Olympic athlete, Bullett led the U.S. team to both bronze and gold medals in 1988 and 1992. 

A member of multiple professional teams, Bullett has played for the Charlotte Sting and the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. According to WNBA records, Bullett had more than 800 field goals, 1100 rebounds, 250 assists, 250 blocks, and 350 steals during her six seasons with the WBNA.

“Coach Bullett is a valuable and instantly recognizable addition to our coaching staff,” said Athletics Director Robert “Bo” Myers. “She has a strong commitment to excellence and will recruit student athletes who want to gain an excellent education and improve their physical skills. Her contacts and experience will be an asset to our entire athletic program.” 

Bullett retired from the WNBA in 2002 and retired from overseas professional play in 2007. She was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011 and was selected for the Washington Mystics All-Time Team in 2012.
