HCC English Club seeking Halloween fiction

Spooky Halloween Tree with birds

This October, HCC's English Club is holding its first Halloween fiction contest. Students are encouraged to submit horror- or Halloween-themed stories, poems, or artwork. Submissions can range from psychopathic serials to eerie mysteries and harvest- or autumn-themed works. Best story, poem, and artwork will win $15 in HCC Grub Bucks, which can be used to purchase food and snacks at the Valley Eatery and the Hilltop Grill.

Submission Guidelines

  • Writing: Written work can be prose, poetry, or short stories. Limit is 2000 words
  • Artwork: Both color and black and white art will be accepted
  • Material may contain adult themes, but students are asked to stay within an "R" rating (strive for quality over shock value)
  • Submissions should be emailed to Amanda Miller at Include "Submission" and the title of your piece in the subject line (no cover letter necessary)

Deadline to apply is Mon., Oct. 15.

Submissions will be posted to the HCC English Club group on Facebook. In addition, the club also hopes to create a print copy of submissions for distribution.
