The HCC NOW Club and the HCC Spectrum Club are partnering to sponsor “V-Day” on Thurs., Feb. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m., in the Student Center.

“V-Day” is a special event inspired by 1 Billion Rising, an advocacy group that seeks to end violence against women.

According to the organization’s website, one billion women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime. This year marks the 15th anniversary of V-Day, which the organization defines as a day when “ONE BILLION women and those who love them [are asked] to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, [and] our solidarity across borders.”

HCC’s V-Day event will feature an open mic format where attendees can share poetry and stories about women who have overcome violence. Local band Luscious Purr will also perform.

This event is free and is open to students, staff, faculty, and the public. Refreshments will be served.
