Hagerstown Community College will hold a launch party for the most recent publication of its literary arts magazine, the Hedge Apple, on Mon., Dec. 2, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the Student Center.

The reception will begin with prose and poetry readings by recent Hedge Apple contributors. Several writing workshops will also be offered. Workshops include “I Finished My Story. Now What?” with HCC English instructor and published author Alicia Drumgoole and “Literary Fiction versus Popular Fiction” with HCC English instructor and published author Amanda Miller. Light refreshments will be served.

This event is free and is open to the public. Local writers and artists are encouraged to attend. Advance registration is not required.

The Hedge Apple was founded in 1999 by Askold Skalsky, a former professor of English and foreign languages at HCC, now retired. The magazine is published once a year by the students and faculty of Hagerstown Community College and features poetry, short fiction, and artwork by HCC students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Submissions for the next edition of the Hedge Apple will be accepted until Jan. 31, 2014. For more information, go to www.hedgeapplemagazine.com.
