(October 9, 2018) – Two students at Hagerstown Community College each received a scholarship in the amount of $2,887 for the 2018-2019 school year, as a result of funds raised from the first Cody Butts Memorial Motorcycle Ride, which was held in 2017.
Jared “Evan” Ramacciotti, of Big Pool, and Ryan Wagner, of Smithsburg, were this year’s recipients. Ramacciotti is a 2018 graduate of the Washington County Technical High School, majoring in business administration. Wagner is a 2018 graduate of Smithsburg and is majoring in general studies.
“The Cody Butts Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of my son, Cody,” said his father, Jeff Butts. “I wanted to give back to the community. I’m a [bike] rider and I know a lot of riders, so it’s a great way to have a ride and raise money.”
The second annual Cody Butts Memorial Motorcycle Ride was held on October 7 and all proceeds will be used to fund another memorial athletic scholarship at HCC.
“I choose HCC because both of my kids got scholarships at HCC,” Butts added. “The funds specifically go to soccer players. Cody also played soccer at HCC and that is why we designated the scholarship to that specific athletic group.”
