(October 6, 2017) Hagerstown Community College’s Science Division is offering a four-credit course, BTC-103/BTC-103L Forensic Science with Forensic Science Lab, which will be considered a biological/physical science general education core course.
This course is an introduction to the scientific study of crime solving. Topics included are crime scene investigation, fingerprint analysis, witness identification and sketching, species identification with advanced microscopy, spectroscopy, blood typing, DNA fingerprinting using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), analysis of gunshot residue, drug identification, ballistics studies, and forensic palynology and crime scene documentation. Prerequisites for this course are ENG 099 and MAT 099.
Forensic Science is offered as a late-start, 12-week hybrid course beginning on January 22, 2018 and running through April 22, 2018. Lectures are online and students will need to attend laboratory sessions on campus at the scheduled times.
