(Release: July 15, 2013) - The Children’s Learning Center at Hagerstown Community College was the first child care center in Washington County to achieve the new Maryland EXCELS rating. This rating is a voluntary tiered quality rating and improvement system (TQRIS) for child care providers and is based on five progressive check levels.
Maryland EXCELS creates a core framework that encompasses quality initiatives in accreditation, credentialing and professional development, developmentally appropriate activities, and administrative practices. Maryland EXCELS recognizes the accomplishments of early childhood and school-age programs and providers, offers information to families on choosing child care and articulates to the public the level of quality in early and school-age care and education programs.
HCC’s Children’s Learning Center supports the child care needs of HCC students, faculty, staff, and others when space permits, and provides a learning laboratory for college students interested in working with young children. Children are accepted at the age of two through the age of five. The Children's Learning Center is open Mon. through Fri., 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., 12 months a year. The Center follows the college calendar and is closed for observed holidays and staff training days. It also follows the college’s inclement weather policies. Applications are currently being accepted for the fall. For more information, call 240-500-2322 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
