HCC athletes receive NJCAA student-athlete awards

(Release: July 1, 2014)— Ten student athletes from Hagerstown Community College were recently named 2014 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Student Athlete Award winners.

Winners of the Superior Academic Achievement Award included Scott Bennett, of Boonsboro, for men’s baseball; Sarah Elwood, of Clear Spring, for women’s volleyball; and Logan McSherry, of Hagerstown, for men’s golf.

Winners of the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award  included Scott Berryman, of Frederick, for cross country and track and field; Adam Carrier, of Cumberland, for men’s soccer; NiiArmah Harper-Douglass, of Washington, D.C., for men’s basketball; Tyler Nally, of Williamsport, for men’s baseball; Miranda Speak, of Clear Spring, for women’s tennis; and Karah Weaver, of Williamsport, for cross country.

HCC cross country and track and field athlete Erika Cline, of Hagerstown, received the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence. Kline has a 4.0 GPA and was one of only seven Maryland community college students to be awarded this honor.
