HCC hires new executive director of college advancement

(Release: July 12, 2012) - HCC recently hired Stacey Lowman as its new executive director of college advancement.

In her role as executive director, Lowman will oversee the HCC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation that seeks private contributions needed to fund student scholarships and equip campus buildings and facilities, as well as the HCC Alumni Association and the HCC Volunteers Corps.

Lowman has a long history of working in the fundraising field and first started out by working with nonprofit organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) where she served as the county coordinator for the Garrett County branch; as school-based coordinator for the Hagerstown branch; and later as executive director for the agency that oversaw Allegany and Garrett County, Md. and Mineral County, W.Va.

From BBBS, Lowman went on to serve as corporate and foundation relations officer at Frederick Community College, education director for the Frederick County Business Roundtable, and manager of major gifts at Meritus Health/Meritus Healthcare Foundation.

She has a master’s degree in strategic leadership from Mountain State University and recently completed Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification.

Lowman says that she decided to come to HCC because she has a passion for education and has long been looking for a position that would allow her to be personally and professionally involved in promoting education in Washington County, where she currently resides.

“This position fulfills a dream for me,” says Lowman. “I want to continue to grow the relationships that the college already has and find new relationships in the community. There is so much opportunity to support the college—from financial assistance for students to supporting new initiatives like HCC’s alternative energy technology program or the arts programs at Kepler. My hope is to tell the story of HCC and express that we truly are the ‘community’s college.’”
